If you stick to your Google Play Music account, one of the few streaming music services that allows you to download your own content for free, now is the time to think about finding a new service .
Today, Google has revealed (via 9to5Google) that it will remove Artist Hub on Google Play Music, which features emerging bands and musicians. These independent actors could download and sell their music via Google Play Music and Google Play Store via Artist Hub.
The service will no longer operate from April 30, 2019.
Stopping this service is probably only a beginning. Although Google has not said much, it is likely that it eventually close Google Play Music and focuses instead on YouTube Music, the most recent music service of the company.
In fact, new submissions to Artist Hub are no longer accepted. Artists interested in submission are instead redirected to – you guessed it – YouTube.
Unfortunately, at the end of the month, when Artist Hub is closed, all songs and albums imported through this service will not appear on Google Play at all. This is undoubtedly disappointing not only for the artists who sell their music via the hub, but also for the fans who bought it.
If you want to quit Google Play Music and take your collection elsewhere, it is advisable to start the process quickly: our own experience downloading our Play Music library was quite heavy.
YouTube music costs $ 10 per month and also includes YouTube Premium, which allows you to access original content and remove ads on the entire YouTube.
NEXT: You can now use YouTube Music with Android Auto
