Donald Trump retaliates against the late Barbara Bush

President Donald Trump responded to critics allegedly made by former First Lady Barbara Bush, who died at the age of 92 a year ago.

Author Susan Detailed Page in her new book, titled The matriarch: Barbara Bush and the establishment of an American dynasty, Bush thought that Trump was the "true symbol of greed in the 80s" and that he was to blame for his hospitalization. Page had written a bedroom clock that counted the seconds until the end of Trump's presidency.

In an interview published Thursday, Trump told the Washington Times that he had "heard" that Bush "was mean to me."

"She should be," he added, because "look what I did to his sons."

"Look, she is the mother of someone with whom I competed. Most people thought that he [Jeb Bush] was going to win and he was quickly eliminated, "said Trump.

Trump's response provoked Twitter, where critics compared his comments to those of his attack on the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
