Forget the fake? 5G E & # 39; AT & T: Here are the real 5G phones coming soon

[ad_1]

Earlier this year, the US carrier AT & T caught the heat (and to be prosecuted) to display the "5G E" connectivity on some of his phonesincluding iPhone. This is despite the fact that its network technology remains unchanged compared to 4G. For its part, John Donovan, CEO of AT & T Communications, has defended the company, claiming that he was proud that AT & T "breaks" the story of the industry, no matter what it means.

Although the actions of AT & T are totally misleading, it is understandable that the company wants to embark on 5G. 5G is the latest generation of cellular technology that will allow users to connect to a fast mobile network, and we are almost looking for solutions. April 4, competitor of AT & T Verizon launched its 5G network in parts of downtown Chicago and Minneapolis. CNET's editor-in-chief, Jessica Dolcourt, discovered the network in Chicago, but the network was not as fast or as reliable as expected.

More Deployment 5G will take place throughout this year and next year, and operators around the world are putting in place the necessary infrastructure to deploy a faster and more extensive wireless network.

5G Phones to know

2:24

Although it is true that many industries will benefit thanks to faster connectivity – autonomous cars, drones and the Internet, among others – most people will probably enjoy the benefits of a rugged 5G network only via a 5G compatible phone. After all, the big promises made by Qualcomm and operators with 5G coverage do not mean much if you can not access the network with your own device.

5G smartphones arrive

2:25

Since the beginning of this year, many phone manufacturers have unveiled their next 5G phones. Samsung was one of the first to present its Galaxy S10 5G to his Unzipped event in February, and many more then made announcements at the MWC 2019 conference.

To help you know when we can expect 5G phones – with real Connectivity 5G – here's what the major phone makers have announced and what they do not have have announced their 5G phone plans to date.

Updated April 5, 2019: Added information about the launch of the 5G network by Verizon in Chicago.

Apple

Apple is in no hurry to launch an iPhone 5G – do not expect a phone this year or maybe even 2020. Except for the discontinuation of the headphone jack (the iPhone 7 was one of the first phones to miss one), Apple is not usually the first on mobile trends, preferring instead to perfect an emerging technology before committing to it. For example, he was behind his competitors in the manufacture of phones with 3G and 4G LTE connectivity when these networks had just been launched. In addition, Intel business executives said that Intel will not have 5G modem chips before 2020 (Apple uses Intel chips in its iPhones).

This does not mean that we should not completely ignore the 5G. As mentioned earlier, some iPhone models on AT & T display the "5G E" symbol on its network, even if it is misleading.

Apple has not responded to a request for comment.

Samsung

From Samsung Galaxy S10 5G Phone, unveiled during the decompression, includes a 6.7-inch screen, four rear cameras and the ability to wirelessly charge other devices. In the USA the phone will launch on Verizon first in the second quarter, then head to AT & T, Sprint and T-Mobile. Although no exact price has been given, it should cost between $ 1,000 and $ 1,980.

But the Galaxy S10 5G will not be the only 5G phone from Samsung. Its foldable Galaxy Fold will have a 5G variant too. And AT & T announced it will offer other Samsung 5G phones by the second half of 2019 (no word on specific devices yet).

Google

Google has not revealed its plans for 5G and the company has refused to respond to a request for comment. What we do know is that Verizon announced plans to roll out its 5G network in early 2019, similar to other carriers.

What does this have to do with Google exactly? In recent years, Google has chosen Verizon as an exclusive partner for its Pixel phones, including the new Pixel 3, although the company also sells the unlocked phone or on its first Wi-Fi network, Google Fi.

This could mean that Google's next flagship product, probably called the Pixel 4, could be a 5G phone. While it follows the usual schedule of launching its phone, the Pixel 4 would debut around October 2019 – well after the first half of the year.

LG

At MWC this year, LG revealed the V50 ThinQ 5G. As expected, the phone will be available in the US via Sprint. (LG confirmed this for the first time in August 2018 by revealing that he was developing a 5G phone). The V50 will also be Sprint's first 5G phone, but it will also be available on Verizon's Ultra Wideband 5G network, T-Mobile and AT & T later in the year. (Sprint should merge with T-Mobile According to the carrier's speed analyst, Ookla "could soon create an unparalleled network facing the 5G".

The phone comes with a 6.4-inch OLED display, three rear cameras including a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens, Snapdragon 855 chipset and two front-facing cameras. He may also join a Double screen accessory this increases the size of the phone display.

Lenovo / Motorola

Last August, Lenovo unveiled the Motorola Moto Z3, a phone that has 5G – somehow. It connects only to the 5G with a Moto Mod Modular accessory that attaches to the back of the phone using magnetic pins. With the Mod, Motorola says the phone will provide data 10 times faster than other 4G LTE devices. When we tested Verizon's 5G network with the phone and the modem, Dolcourt noticed "theoretical download speeds of up to 600 Mbps". But other times, "the download would start loud, the phone would flash to display the 4G logo and the speed would drop." The Mod is on sale now at $ 200 (the total retail price is $ 350).

As for a Motorola phone that does not need an accessory to connect to 5G, the company is working on the manufacture of such a device, but you will have to wait a lot longer. Doug Michau, Director of Technical Sales and Operations at Motorola Mobility, said the phone would arrive much later than early 2019. Specifically, Mr. Michau announced that it would be launched "in less than three years, but not yet."

Huawei

Adopt the two most popular phone trends, 5G speeds and foldable displays, Huawei announced the Mate X on the MWC 2019. The device has a 6.6 inch screen when it is folded and an 8 inch OLED screen when you open it. It also has a battery of 4,500 mAh and three rear cameras. The launch of Mate X is scheduled for the middle of the year and will cost 2,300 euros (about $ 2,600).

The phone will not come to the United States though. Calling it a security threat to the Department of Defense, the US government has banned the sale of Huawei phones on US military bases. Giant of the retail sale Best Buy stopped selling them in March 2018 and Huawei CFO was arrested in Canada at the request of the United States in an act his father said was politically motivated. Italy also wants to ban society to provide 5G material.

This does not necessarily mean the end of Huawei and its 5G ambitions. "Our products and solutions are used by major carriers, Fortune 500 companies and hundreds of millions of consumers in more than 170 countries around the world," said a spokesman for Huawei. last march. "We have won the trust of our partners in the global value chain."

OnePlus

OnePlus gave us a limited preview a prototype of his first 5G phone at MWC 2019. The phone will sell on the British carrier EE's 5G network, which will cover 16 cities in 2019, will begin with London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester.

The 5G phone should be out by 2019 and it will work the last Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. The phone too would not be part of the main OnePlus range. Instead, it would be a separate phone specifically designed to take advantage of the high speed network. Do not expect him to hit Verizon soon, but expect to cost more than previous OnePlus phones.

Nokia

Even though Nokia is not the phone giant it has been 15 years agohe is still moving towards a 5G future. In July, the brand announced a $ 3.5 billion partnership with T-Mobile, which includes taking advantage of 600 MHz spectrum of T-Mobile support its 5G network. The 5G phones from this partnership are expected in 2019.

Nokia could also take advantage of 5G in other respects. In addition to Qualcomm and Ericsson, the company holds patent rights on 5G technology and is expected to earn up to $ 3.50 for each 5G smartphone sold.

HTC

The Taiwanese electronics company HTC also had something to do with the 5G to show at the MWC. Instead of a phone, it was a 5G hotspot. Available on Sprint, the hub can connect up to 20 people simultaneously. Equipped with a 5-inch screen, speakers and Android Pie software, the device is also a multimedia hub with which users can make video calls or use to check their emails.

ZTE

One of the latest ZTE phones is the Axon 10 Pro 5G. It is equipped with a Snapdragon 855 processor and a built-in fingerprint scanner in its display. At the back, three cameras with artificial intelligence features, including scene recognition. The rear configuration includes a wide angle camera, a standard lens and a third telephoto camera. For your selfie shots, the front of the phone comes with a 20-megapixel camera.

In February, ZTE announced its intention to launch 5G phones in late 2018 or early 2019, but then announced a "late 2019" forecast. ZTE is currently working with eight international operators to roll out 5G tests. While the future of ZTE in the United States is in the air because of a recent (now lifted) ban his phones because society violation of trade sanctions, the Axon 10 Pro will be available at least in the first half of this year in Europe and China.

Xiaomi

Chinese phone maker Xiaomi remixed his Mi Mix 3 with a new Model 5G. Well known as Mi Mix 3 5G, the phone costs 599 euros (about 679 dollars) and will be launched in May. It is unlikely that the phone will be available in the United States. Among the first partners of the company's 5G network are many European operators, including Orange, Sunrise, Telefonica, Three, TIM and Vodafone.

The phone itself is equipped with a 6.39-inch AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 845 processor and two 12-megapixel rear cameras. CNET's editor, Aloysius Low, also said that it was neither water-resistant nor that his front-facing cameras had a secure 3D unlocking of the face.

Show off a prototype at the MWCOppo, the sister company of OnePlus, has announced its intention to launch a 5G phone this year. The device will contain a Snapdragon 855 chipset and will be based on the Oppo Find X phone. When it came out last year, we had considered the Find X as one of the best phones of 2018. It features # 39; a unique contextual camera, great design and fast loading.

Although it is unlikely to arrive in the United States, the 5G version is expected to come out between April and June. Oppo is working with four operators (Swisscom, Australian companies Telstra and Optus, and Singtel in Singapore) to launch the phone. It's also a partnership with China Mobile to sell the phone later this summer.
