United Express lands after cockpit displays begin to disappear

DALLAS (AP) – A United Express flight was interrupted when the screens in the cockpit began to darken.

The Thursday flight from Knoxville, Tennessee to Houston made an unplanned landing in place of the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

A video posted by passenger Rodney Giles shows one of the pilots telling passengers that the crew had lost two screens because they were overheating and that the other screens would eventually fail. This dictated an immediate landing.

"If we continued, I would end up flying blind," said the pilot.

The flight was operated by ExpressJet Airlines under a contract with United.

An ExpressJet spokesperson said the crew had reported a problem with the cockpit monitors and that the flight had landed in Dallas. He says the passengers have been re-registered on other flights.
