President Trump announced Friday that he would be putting a section of the newly built border wall into the oval office after receiving it as a trophy.
"It will be in the oval office," Trump told border patrol members at a roundtable in Calexico, California, as he was preparing to visit the nearby Mexican border gates.
Gloria Chavez, the chief officer of the Border Patrol El Centro area, presented the slice of wall to Trump.
Chavez said the spear-shaped piece of metal had been caught in a section of the new 30-foot-tall metal wall. It was covered with a plaque declaring the border patrol "the end of the spear".
Chavez said the patrol officers wanted to offer Trump "a nice memory as a thank you for all the support you have given us".
"We went ahead and secured a piece of the new border wall that is here in the El Centro area," Chavez said, introducing Trump with the metal section mounted on a piece of wood.
The plate covering the metal wafer reads: "Mr. President, the agents and employees of the US Border Patrol, of the El Centro sector, are the spearhead and proudly defend the US borders. Continued support for men and women on the front lines and US border security mission, we would like to introduce this first part of the first 30-foot wall installed along the United States border with Mexico.
