Obama fears progressives risk creating "circular platoon"

Former President Barack Obama said Saturday that he feared that progressives would create a "circular firing squad" while Democratic presidential candidates run left on a number of topics news for the 2020 elections.

"Our structure of democracy requires that you take into account those who do not agree with you," he said at a public event organized by the Obama Foundation in Berlin, according to the New York Post. "And that means by definition that you're not going to get 100% of what you want."

Barack Obama still believes the candidate should be "an excellent president" and not touching allegations: report

"One of the things that sometimes worries me about the progressives … sometimes we start creating what we call a" circular firing squad "in which you start shooting at your allies because one of the things you're going to do. they have moved away from purity over issues, "he said.

Obama's remarks come as Democrats in the House, like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Have pushed back the once marginal positions on Medicare-for-all, the Green New Deal and the repair of slavery. In turn, the presidential candidates of 2020 have also adopted some of these positions.

In this climate, candidates have been criticized for their previous positions by activists. South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg was forced this week to speak in 2015 to say "all lives matter" – what some activists see as a counterpoint to the slogan "Black lives matter".

Senator Kamala Harris, D-Calif., Has in the meantime been struck by the controversy over her past as a prosecutor. A scathing editorial published in January in the New York Times, written by law professor Lara Bazelon, reignited control.

Bazelon said that Harris had previously "fought with all his might to enforce wrongful convictions that had been guaranteed by official misconduct, including falsification of evidence, false testimony and removal of crucial information by prosecutors" .

Bazelon added that Harris should "apologize to people wrongfully convicted that she has fought to stay in jail and do everything in her power to have justice done" or to say that She has "radically broken her past".

The former Vice President of Obama, Joe Biden, meanwhile has been criticized for his past inappropriate physical contact with women, as well as a 1993 crime speech in which he had put warning against "predators on our streets".

"They are out of reach for many of these people, beyond anything," continued Biden. "And it's a sad commentary on society – we have no choice but to take them out of society."

The latter was reminiscent of Hillary Clinton, presidential candidate for the heat of 2016, was inspired by activists for describing some gang members as "super predators" in 1996.

Obama himself can not escape criticism during the electoral cycle. His flagship bill on health care, the Affordable Care Act, is quickly eclipsed by Democrats' calls for single payer plans and Medicare for all. Meanwhile, a number of Democrats have said they are open to black American slavery, which Obama opposed when he was in power.
