St. John's Sports Director, Mike Cragg, publicly voiced his support for Chris Mullin, as the relationship between the Red Storm coach and the administration had become stormy.
In a statement Saturday, Cragg tried to let it be known that he intended to keep Mullin at the post.
"Let me be clear and I said from the start, coach Mullin is our head coach and we are not looking for another head coach," said Cragg.
Cragg also pointed to recent meetings between Mullin and him, calling these sessions "productive, engaging and positive for the future of St. John's Basketball and our sports department as a whole".
Sources told Jeff Borzello of ESPN that there were points of contention between the two parties at this week's meetings, which led to speculation from the industry about a possible redemption or a change of coach.
Saturday's proclamation by Cragg seems to put this possibility aside.
Mullin led St. John's to a 21-13 record and the program's first participation at the NCAA since 2015. The Red Storm has seen its number of wins increase each year under Mullin after a first season of 8 -24 in 2015-16.
