The Washington Capitals will face this group of shocks, the Carolina Hurricanes, in the first round of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Hurricanes were the most likely to compare themselves to the Capitals entering Saturday. While the Hurricanes defeated the Flyers 4-3, the Penguins extended the game against the Rangers, preventing the Canes from climbing ahead.
The Canes finished their season with a total record of 46-29-7 and 99 points.
The Capitals have won their four regular season games against the Canes, a 6-5 win and a 3-1 win in December, and more recently a 4-1 win and a 3-2 win in March.
This is the first appearance of the Canes in the playoffs in a decade. The team announced earlier this week that it will wear its black jersey for the duration of its home games.
The schedule of the first round will be announced Sunday morning.
