The 5G revolution begins slowly, but Apple will remain on the sidelines for the moment. As expected, and similar to its previous strategy regarding 4G a few years ago, Apple expects to expect wider national coverage before joining Part 5G. So while 2019 will see any number of 5G Android enabled devices on the market, iPhone users will have to wait a bit. The only question, however, is how long this wait will last.
Despite the widespread belief that 5G compatible iPhones will arrive in stores in 2020, recent investor ratings from analysts have suggested that Intel – Apple's leading 5G modem provider – not able to produce modems to the size required by Apple. At the same time, Apple is unlikely to sign a deal with Qualcomm, as the two companies are still fighting over royalty payment issues in countries around the world.
With regard to Intel's alleged current technical challenges, a Quick business a few days back report relayed the following:
The chip giant was also expected to be the only provider of 5G modems in the 2020 iPhones, but there is no time to develop the chip, the XMM 8160 5G modem, according to an informed source of the situation.
To be able to deliver a large number of these modems in time for the launch of the iPhone in September 2020, Intel must provide parts samples to Apple by the beginning of the summer of this year, then a full modem model in early 2020.
In order not to despair, Intel has been quick to dismiss rumors that the production of its 5G modem is not up to par. And although the company has not naturally referenced Apple by name, the company it refers to when it comes to delivering 5G modems to its partners is no secret.

Of course, it goes without saying that missing the 5G boat in 2020 would be a huge strategic blow for Apple. The good news, however, is that all the rumors relating to an alleged launch window of the iPhone 5G for 2021 date back 20 years, and come from analysts whose backgrounds are far from perfect regarding the rumors of Apple.
