A motorcycle officer from the California Highway Patrol was killed in an accident Saturday, according to media reports.
The agency identified the officer as being Sgt. Steve Licon from the Riverside Region of the PSC.

The officer's bike collided with a sedan shortly before 4:30 pm PT on Interstate 15 at Lake Elsinore, about 70 miles east of Los Angeles, reported KTLA -TV.
Three people were taken to hospital by ambulance in an unknown state, the station reported. FOX 5 in San Diego said the officer was one of three.

Authorities have closed the southbound lanes of the highway.
The area has experienced heavy traffic in recent weeks due to poppy blooms that have attracted thousands of people to the area on the weekends.
