Now that the Sega Genesis returns in September with a $ 80 mini version, I'm happy to take a moment to recognize the console that helped make video games a staple and gave us some of the most memorable characters of the game today.
Originally launched in Japan in October 1988 before arriving in North America in August 1989, the Genesis was one of the most successful video game consoles of the 1990s and the main competitor of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Although Sega wants to use new consoles like the Saturn and the Dreamcast, Genesis is without a doubt the most famous material of the company.
Boasting a superior sound card and a miniature version of the Sega System 16 arcade board, Sega proudly introduced the console with the slogan "Genesis does what Nintendon does not do". Nintendo was already in a prominent position in the home console market, forcing Sega to offer new and original characters and concepts to implement.

The company has managed to break into successful games like "Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Ecco the Dolphin" and has continued to invest in new zany franchises such as Earthworm Jim and ToeJam and Earl. Six years into existence, the Genesis had a library powerful enough to fuel debate between Sega and Nintendo fans for days.
In 2001, Sega stopped creating its own video game consoles and turned to creating new games for other platforms. Fortunately, many of the best games for Sega Genesis have been published in special collections or have been remastered for modern video game consoles and smartphones. When the Genesis Mini will be available, it will be the perfect opportunity to revisit many of these timeless classics, although Sega has not announced the full lineup.
Without further ado, here are the 20 best Sega Genesis games.
