Friendly restaurants DeWitt, Syracuse and Clay closed abruptly today.

Workers at Friendly Restaurant at 3275 Erie Blvd. East to DeWitt said they did not know exactly why they are closing. They are closing the store this morning, employees said.

In addition to Friendly's restaurant in DeWitt, the Friendly at 3701 James S. Syracuse and the Great Northern Mall all closed at 6:00 am today, workers said.

The Friendly Restaurant in Cortland and 3873 Route 31 remains open.

Friendly representatives can not be contacted.

In 2013, Fayetteville's Friendly's Restaurant closed, as well as one in Bayberry. In all, Friendly's closed eight of its restaurants in central New York at the time.

When Friendly left bankruptcy protection in 2012, it had 254 restaurants but closed 100 as part of this process.

Since then, he has continued to occasionally close restaurants. It now has 101 company-owned restaurants and 99 franchised restaurants. Employees said the restaurants that closed today in the Syracuse area belong to the company.

Friendly's was founded in 1935 in Springfield, MA.
