Ford # 4 Stewart-Haas Racing will start from behind and serve a penalty at Sunday's Food City 500 (2 pm, ET, FS1, PRN, SiriusXM) at Bristol Motor Speedway after three failures at pre-race inspection. NASCAR also expelled # 4 engineer, Billy Kuebler, from the garage.

The team will also serve a 30-minute training session next weekend at the Richmond Raceway. The team has passed the inspection at its fourth time.

Rodney Childers, Team Leader of the No. 4 Ford, explained the technical problems of the car Sunday afternoon before heading to the team's booth.

"I've seen other people get involved in the last few years. Personally, we have never experienced this, "said Childers. "We went through the first time and the right rear camber was 0.03 degree too much, so we went back and changed the sleeve to fix the camber, we did not adjust anything, we did not get it. we did not even start the car. Jack gets up. We went back there and the right rear tip was cheated by 0.01 degree. He came back here and moved the bullet from the truck's arm and repaired it, then came down and the camber from the left-back was fake. The left rear camber was not even closed all weekend, so I do not know.

"It seems that once you fail once, it's easy to get lost in things that change every time you go through and inconsistencies throughout this deal."

Kevin Harvick qualified 13th for Sunday's race and led the 10-lap average in the second session. In 36 NASCAR Cup Series starts in Bristol, Harvick has two wins and 19 top-10 finishes.

The crossing penalty will cost Harvick one of the lead cars, leaving him 500 laps to regain the ground. Childers said that he was not concerned about the speed of the car.

"I'll talk to you after the race," he told reporters with a smile.
