Mike Young of Wofford is in talks to become Virginia Tech's next head coach, ESPN sources said.

An agreement is not yet concluded, according to sources, but the two parties are close.

Young will replace Buzz Williams, who left for Texas A & M earlier this week after five seasons in Blacksburg. Williams has led the Hokies to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past three seasons, including a Sweet 16 race this season before losing to Duke.

Young, a native of Virginia, has been working in Wofford since 1989. He spent 13 seasons as an assistant Terriers coach, and was promoted to head coach in 2002 after being promoted to head coach to sports director Richard Johnson. . He led Wofford to five NCAA tournaments during his 17 seasons at the head of the Terriers.

Wofford remained undefeated at the South Conference this season, finishing 30-5 overall. The Terriers won 7 NCAA tournament wins and defeated Seton Hall in the first round.

The news was reported for the first time by Stadium.
