OPELOUSAS, LA (AP) – Members of three historically African churches that have burned in recent weeks in Louisiana said the fires would not stop them from worshiping.

KATC-TV reports that members of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and Missionary Baptist Church of Morning Star gathered for a joint service Sunday at Opelousas.

With worshipers all in white, the pastor of Mount Pleasant told them that the church was "alive and well." Reverend Gerald Toussaint says "the devil does not realize what he has done" by giving him a greater platform to preach.

The first fire occurred on March 26 at the St. Mary Baptist Church in Port Barre and the second occurred on April 2 at the Greater Union Baptist Church in Opelousas. Thursday, Mount Pleasant caught fire.

The churches were vacant and no one was injured.

Federal agents and the state's fire marshal investigate.
