Foxx welcomes the external review of the Smollett case

The FOP protested last Monday against Foxx and asked him to resign for failing to respond to charges involving significant police resources. The union also asked for a federal investigation into Foxx's involvement in the Smollett case.

The protests took place a week after his office dropped 16 charges against the "Empire" actor, who had agreed to lose $ 10,000 in bail and do community service.

Demonstrators of the duel are fighting over the decision of the Kim County Law Office, Cook County, to drop all charges against them.

Foxx previously stated that she welcomed an "external, non-political review" of how her office dealt with the Smollett case. She had separated from the decision making in the case in mid-February by "great caution".

She repeated her invitation for a Saturday review.

"I am again considering an independent review of how we handled this case because it is due to the public," she said.

Despite these past few weeks, Foxx said that she always remained with her law enforcement partners.

"I never, I will never talk bad about our partners in this work," she said. "I believe in their ability to do good work, I support them, I've always done it."

US representative says race plays a role in calls for resignation

Foxx's supporters also spoke Saturday.

"The FOP is the black nemesis," US representative Bobby Rush told WBBM-TV, affiliated with CNN. "They want to keep African Americans in total disarray."

Foxx said the calls for his resignation were "discouraging".

"When we are in these positions, the goal posts change," she said.

The Smollett affair was not a hate crime, as is the case with the first police officer in Chicago.

The FOP and the police chiefs associations insisted that their problems with Foxx do not start with Smollett.

"This is not just about Jussie Smollett," said Kevin Graham, FOP President. "There are many cases in the Cook County system that have gone unanswered or whose charges have been reduced."
