If you own a Galaxy S8, a Galaxy S8 + or a Galaxy Note 8 locked on the Sprint network, do your best not to get the urge to pie your friends. The carrier has deployed and has now extracted the update because the only problem it poses far exceeds the potential benefits of this update. The owners of these phones have complained about the sudden demise of the updated LTE connectivity and, unfortunately, no solution is in sight.
Sprint may have been a bit too early to know when he boasted about being the first American carrier to integrate Android 9.0 Pie into Samsung's 2017 leaderboard. Given the rarity of this feature on a Samsung phone, it is easy to understand why users want to take over immediately. Unfortunately, this left them without the speed of the LTE network.
To his credit, the carrier acknowledged the problem and put the update on hold while investigating with Samsung. Unfortunately, it's a little too late for those who have already been bitten by the virus. Even worse, they have virtually no recourse if they desperately need an LTE connection.
Given the nature of Android updates, it is impossible to return to an older version. Sprint warns that disabling groups on the phone will not solve anything and could even break things over. Those who need LTE can bring their phone for a replacement, provided it is still under warranty.
To be clear, 3G and Wi-Fi will continue to work, which is the only way to get the update that will hopefully solve this mess. However, given the importance of LTE, you will think that Sprint has done its best to test things before deploying them.
