A man was killed while parachuting in southern New Jersey on Sunday, officials said.

A paratrooper described as "very experienced" died Sunday in southern New Jersey, officials said.
The incident occurred around 5:25 pm. at Williamstown, while the 54-year-old skydiver made a jump to Skydive Cross Keys.
Ground witnesses said the man's parachute was not open when he landed, reported FOX29.

"I heard a thud, we thought that one car had hit someone, and then I saw that white thing hanging around there," said a resident of Rosemary Ilgenfritz. at WPVI-TV.
Neighbors said the man was surrounded by a parachute, but local authorities said it was a rescue parachute.

The man, who has not yet been identified, landed in a neighborhood not far from Cross Keys Airport, a popular paratrooper location.
"The rider was very experienced with over 1000 jumps to his credit," said Skydive Cross Keys at the Philadelphia Inquirer. "The skydiver parachute was deployed at the exit of the plane."

The Gloucester County Attorney's Office is investigating the accident. Further details will be released pending the results of the investigation.
