Samantha Cerio never thought that her academic gymnastics career would end as well.
Cerio, a senior in Auburn, was in the middle of her ground exercise when she was injured in both legs during the NCAA Regional Semifinal on Friday with LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana .
While attempting a blind landing on a free-fall pass, Cerio landed poorly and grabbed both legs as she lay on the mat.
The meeting was stopped while the paramedics gave him air jets around both legs. More than 5,500 fans from the Pete Maravich Rally Center cheered in front of her while she was carried on a stretcher.
Cerio s' dislocated both knees and broke both legs, reported the New Orleans Times-Picayune, citing sources with preliminary knowledge of injuries,
Cerio announced Sunday on Instagram that it was about her "last night as a gymnast".
"It may not have finished as planned," Cerio writes, "but nothing is going as planned."
Without Cerio, Auburn (49,350) then progressed on Arizona State (195,425) and George Washington (194,675).
