No team can reorganize their roster in the 2019 NFL draft, just like the Oakland Raiders. With four of the top 35, the Raiders can find several starters this year.
They need them too. The Raiders are 10-22 in the last two seasons and in the second year of a rebuild with Jon Gruden in charge. Now, with Mike Mayock as its managing director, this could be a decisive project for Gruden. If the Raiders become a playoff team, this project will be considered the reason. If the Raiders continue to struggle, the failure of this project will be the reason.
Levi Damien of Silver and Black Pride do not face the same pressure in the draft model of the authors of the NFL SB Nation. Here it is with the fourth choice:
4. Oakland Raiders: Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama
Damien: The Edge defensive is a bigger need of this team than any other football team with 13 bags of last season and only one bag belonging to a leading edge defender currently on the list. But in this rough draft, the two best edges are gone. My first thought, if I am the Raiders in this situation, is to explore the exchanges. It may be a team's favorite field to take a quarter and otherwise a team might just want Quinnen Williams to be so bad knowing that if the Raiders do not take it, the Buccaneers will do it.
The Raiders used a second-round pick last year on PJ Hall and got a top-10 talent from Maurice Hurst in the fifth round because of the concern of a heart disease risk which seems so far to be overexploited. For this reason, an inner defensive lineman is not one of their most pressing needs. That being said, Williams is an incredible talent and, if that boils down, you throw the need out the window and you consider him the best player on the board and probably the best player on this project, and you hope to have a decisive advantage . later in a project that is deep to the position.
Analysis: It's pretty on the spot. The only problem with Williams is how many shots he could have, or how many would be removed to Hall and Hurst. This could, however, cause the Raiders to use three-man fronts with this group of young defensive strikers. You just have to ask yourself a little bit about what a player like Mount Sweat might be like on the Oakland defense.
Five remaining players:
- 4. Ed Oliver, DT, Houston
- 5. Devin White, LB, LSU
- 6. Dwayne Haskins, QB, State of Ohio
- 7. T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa
- 8. Jeffery Simmons, DT, State of Mississippi
Coming at 1 pm ET, this is Gil Arcia from the Bucs nation who chooses the Buccaneers.
