IKEA and Sonos bring a new light to the sound
Sound is a powerful mood booster, as important to the home atmosphere as any carpet, piece of art or sofa. In order to make quality sound accessible to everyone, IKEA and Sonos are introducing the first products of the SYMFONISK range – one of our most powerful table lamps of all time.
There is sound and light. Two extremely important elements to create the good atmosphere around the house. Tap a switch and a dark and static space becomes a place where you want to relax – turn up the volume and a gray Monday turns into an excellent one. So, what better way to start collaboration than to merge the two? With the SYMFONISK table lamp with WiFi speaker, IKEA and Sonos have created a high-quality piece of furniture with outstanding sound, which blends into the house in a new way, facilitating acoustics.
"We knew from the start that we wanted to challenge the traditional aesthetic of high technology. The speaker comes in part from the idea of fireplace: a unique piece that diffuses both heat and light, "says Iina Vuorivirta, one of the designers of SYMFONISK loudspeaker at IKEA of Sweden.
While IKEA represents the knowledge of home furnishing and design direction, Sonos has contributed by its deep sound skills.
"Our design had to be 100% faithful to the quality that Sonos represents, without any compromise. At the same time, we wanted to create something completely new, "says Vuorivirta.
Tad Toulis, vice president of design at Sonos, said, "Sound is a powerful part of our identity. Whether it's hearing your baby's laughs or listening to what your mom loved about the '80s, it's a deeply emotional element in our lives. "
"This partnership has always been about the passion, values and common knowledge of our two companies. IKEA and Sonos recognize the importance of great sound and the potential to positively affect home life for many people. We have undertaken to create products that neither of us would develop or develop independently. To this end, music and light contribute to create a feeling of belonging, we have developed a product able to meet these two needs: the speaker of the lamp SYMFONISK, "says Tad Toulis.
For IKEA, the sound business is part of a larger journey to smarter homes that debuted with a wireless charging range in 2015 and continues to progress, one step at a time.
"The creation of the IKEA Home Smart concept is at the center of creating ambiance and convenience, and the SYMFONISK range is perfectly designed with this in mind. IKEA is always looking for ideas to improve life at home. By integrating technology into products and furniture solutions, we can do it even better, "said Björn Block, Sales Manager IKEA Home Smart at IKEA of Sweden.
We invite you to join us to play with sound and light at Torneria Tortona's Salone del Mobile, Via Novi 5, in Milan from 9 to 14 April (and admire a glimpse of the new SYMFONISK range, of course).
