SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) – An alleged burglar was filmed and filmed thanks to one of the latest software updates from Tesla.

The car owner was able to capture an incredibly clear video of his stolen car in San Francisco.

Jed Franklin is a model who "shuttles" more than 160 km from Folsom to San Francisco for fitting and photo shoots. While he was parked April 3 at the pier for a Levi fitting, Jed was alerted on his Tesla application that the Sentry mode had been activated.

Sentry Mode was offered to Tesla customers as a software upgrade in February. The vehicle uses its cameras to turn on and record whenever there is a threat, such as a person leaning on the car.

Jed was able to capture a suspect parking in a white sedan in front of his model 3, exit the vehicle, sneak into the passenger side and use a small tool to pierce the rear window.
