Cubs & Lester injured; Taillon of the Pirates hit in the head

CHICAGO – Ace of Chicago Cubs, Jon Lester, left his opening game at home in the third inning Monday, with hamstring tension, and Pittsburgh Pirates starter, Jameson Taillon, removed a lining but stayed long enough to finish the second.

Lester will get an MRI Tuesday, a day off for both teams, who will meet again on Wednesday.

"I did not feel anything like pop or anything like that," Lester said after the Cubs' 10-0 win. "A little more along the feeling of cramps.We will learn more [Tuesday]. "

Lester's injury came as he ran the goals late in the second run. He slipped into the second goal on a RBI double and a few moments later he slipped home in a six-pointer round of the Cubs. The veteran says that he has never had leg problems before. (Lester, 35, has made at least 31 starts per season since 2008.)

"In my mind, I'm making my next start," he said. "[Tuesday] can tell us something different. "

As he was warming up to the top of the third third, Lester grabbed his left hamstring. He then faced two batters, which allowed both to reach the goal, before Joe Maddon manager went looking for him. Brad Brach replaced Lester.

Lester was not the only pitcher to suffer on Monday. Taillon was hit by a starting line from Anthony Rizzo in the second run. He was healed, but shook everyone and stayed in the match to finish the round. He was brushed in the third goal, however 6-0. None of the points were deserved, the shortstop Kevin Pirates Newman having made three mistakes.

Left-handed Steven Brault replaced Taillon. The Pirates announced that the doctor of their team had examined Taillon and that the first tests were normal. It must be evaluated on Tuesday.

It was not the first time that Taillon was hit in the head by a liner. As a rookie in 2016 against the Brewers, he took a vicious lining in the back of the lead on the second run. He stayed in this game too, doing six innings.

The Cubs improved to 3-7, becoming the first team since the Detroit Tigers in 2005 to have a positive differential (plus-1) with a 3-7 record or worse. They are also only the second team (Cardinals, 2000) since 1920 to score 10 points or more in five of the first 10 games of the team.
