Here's what's happening in the TV world for Tuesday, April 9th. All hours are east.
The best choice
Pit / Verdon (FX, 10h, first in the series): If you are sitting there and wondering what a Pit-Slash-Verdon is, here is your answer. These are these two:
Steven Levenson's new limited edition (Dear Evan Hansen) and Thomas Kail (the director of Hamilton), among others, follows the complex relationship between Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon. The first was a director and choreographer who won an Oscar for Cabaret and had an incalculable impact on the world of dance; the last, a triple threat (an actor-singer-dancer) who caught four Tonys at his time to tread the boards. They fell in love. That's the story, but it's a lot more complicated than that, especially with respect to the role Verdon played in creating the work and legacy of Pit. All that, and they dance.
If you are a person who loves musical theater, it is not a series on which we must sell you. You probably have already set up your DVR and erased your schedule. But if that's not the case, do not let the jazz hands dissuade you – this thing stars Michelle Williams and Sam Rockwell, not to mention Aya Cash, Paul Reiser, Norbert Butz Leo, Evan Handler, AmericansSusan Misner, Nate Corddry, the list is long. This is well worth a look. Keep a close eye on Erik Adams' review and Gwen Ihnat's weekly summaries.
Regular coverage
The bold type (Freeform, 20h): First of the third season
Wild card
Bong Appetite: Cook-Off (Vice, 9pm): If you are able to withstand the double blow of a show called Bong Appetite broadcast an episode entitled "Legalize Marinara", you are stronger than us.
This week's cook, Joe Gannascoli (The Sopranos), Chef Brad Spence and grandmother Josephine Polito.
