Kellie Harper would have been hired as new coach of Lady Vols

KNOXVILLE – According to a source close to the process, Kellie Harper, former coach of the Tennessee Lady Volunteer and current head coach of the Missouri State, was hired as a women's basketball coach at her alma mater.

The source said the two sides were working on an official announcement and the preliminary press conference.

Harper (formerly Jolly) played for Tennessee from 1995 to 1999, contributing to the victory of three consecutive national championships in 1996, 1997 and 1998. She was selected to be part of the team of all Final Four tournaments. NCAA of 1997.

Her coaching career began with an assistant season in Auburn, followed by three at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. The Mocs reached the NCAA Tournament every three years, including 2004, beating Rutgers 74-69 for the only win in an NCAA tournament in the history of this program.

Harper earned her first head coaching position in 2004 at Western Carolina, where she spent five seasons and competed in two NCAA tournaments and participated in two Invitational Women's Tournaments. She was elected coach of the year 2007 of the Southern Conference.

That led in 2009 to North Carolina State, which participated in the NCAA tournament in its first season and made WNIT its last two seasons before being relieved of duty in 2013.

Harper then traveled to the state of Missouri, compiling a record of 118-79 in six seasons. His Bears have qualified twice for the NCAA tournament and three times for WNIT. She guided them to a record of 25-10 and Sweet 16 last season.

She has a career record of 285-208, with five appearances in NCAA tournaments and seven places at WNIT.

She was under contract during the 2021-22 season with an annual salary of $ 246,640. Her husband, Jon, who was on staff during his three head training, earns $ 85,829.

Harper replaces Holly Warlick, aged 172 to 67 in seven seasons, who replaced the legendary Pat Summitt in 2012 and now qualifies for the NCAA tournament. The Lady Volunteers of Warlick won the regular season title of the Southeastern Conference in 2014 and 2015.

The University owes Warlick $ 705,000, one third of the remaining salary on his contract, which was due to expire in three years.
