A 12-year-old Buffalo boy who was at his home was fatally shot in the head by a stray bullet on Saturday night, police said.

Bandar Elwaseem was in his apartment around 8:30 pm. when he was shot, the Buffalo police said Sunday.

The bullet that struck Bandar traveled "a considerable distance," the police said. He was in the kitchen when he was shot, according to ABC's affiliate Buffalo, WKBW.

Another person, a 22-year-old man, was also shot and his condition is stable after surgery, officials said. Police hope to talk to him later on Sunday.

Investigators believe that shooting began in the parking area of ​​Town Gardens Plaza, based on the direction of the gunfire and the location of Bandar's home, police said.
