Diesel Pippert, a seventh grade student from Huron County, Ohio, will donate every penny of his auction proceeds to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Diesel's generous decision stemmed from a bit of friendly competition. He had heard about a teenager from the neighboring county of Medina, who had sold his pork at the auction for $ 11,000 and had donated the proceeds from the sale to the nonprofit children's hospital from Memphis. He decided to try his luck, his mother Erin Sanders told CNN.
He told his plans to the crowd at the Huron County Fair's big animal auction on Saturday. The auctioneers started to bet on Diesel's pork at $ 500 and rose rapidly. By the time the last bidder lowered his paddle, the boy had raised $ 15,000, Sanders said.

Diesel is a regular at the fair, said his mother.

He has auctioned pigs, cows and dairy cows since the age of 9. She now hopes that he will continue to donate money and will donate his earnings to St. Jude each year.

"Our hearts are full of joy," she said. "He's a remarkable young man."

Sanders said the family was planning a visit to the Memphis hospital, where she would give toys and games to pediatric patients.

Western Reserve Schools Superintendent Rodge Wilson said he was not surprised when he had heard of Diesel's good action. In a Facebook post, the school district described the 12-year-old as a "hero".

"We are very proud of his youth," he said.

Cynthia Gardner, Regional Executive Director of ALSAC (American Syrian Associated Charities), St. Jude's fundraising and outreach organization, described Diesel's compassion as commendable.

"His kindness demonstrates that age does not prevent children from raising money and making a difference in the lives of other children struggling with cancer in St. Jude," he said. she said in a statement to CNN.
