Kashala Francis, the 13-year-old girl who was in intensive care after being brutally beaten and who was kicked in the head during a fight outside her college, died.
Kashala, a student at Attucks Middle School in Houston, Texas, was targeted by a group of girls after school last Thursday. The girls repeatedly trampled her and hit her in the head, showed a video of the violent incident.
On Sunday, the teenager had fallen unconscious and had been placed on respiratory assistance. She never opened her eyes again after this day.
"Why should I suffer?" Said Mamie Jackson to Kashala's mother. ABC13 as she cried. "Why do I have to wake up and she's not here?"
"It's not fair," added Jackson. "She did not deserve that."
During their hospitalization, doctors discovered a tumor previously unknown to the family in the 13-year-old brain. There was also a build-up of fluid in his brain.
It is still unclear whether the fight contributed to Kashala's premature death, or whether it was the cause of his pre-existing health condition.
Jackson, however, remains unconvinced, saying that the sudden decline of his daughter makes no sense.
"So, if she had a tumor in her head that we [didn’t know] about someone, and someone stomp you, kicks you and punches in your head, you can not even defend yourself, it'll be better, it'll be worse ?
Jackson insists that if the fight did not take place, "I would have always had more time with my baby".
Houston police are working with independent police in the independent school district of Houston to investigate the incident. An autopsy will be performed at the Texas Pediatric Hospital to determine the cause of Kashala's death.
Meanwhile, the family is mourning and planning a funeral for a 13-year-old child. The family has a Facebook donation page to help pay for Kashala's funeral expenses. The page has raised more than $ 10,000, exceeding its goal over the past three days.
