A man from Alabama is accused of raping a 5-year-old girl, who had been hospitalized and had undergone an operation following the alleged attack on Thursday, according to reported information.

Steven Sarandon Barnes, 28, was arrested over the weekend on charges of first degree rape, chemical harming a child, and second-degree marijuana possession, The Montgomery Advertiser reported.

"He is a sick bastard who, I hope, will never see the light of day. We will do everything in our power to make this happen, "said District Attorney Randall Houston.

Authorities reacted Thursday in a Prattville hospital in search of a sexually assaulted child, the Millbrook Police Chief, P.K. Johnson said. The child was operated on and he thought the girl was in a stable state Saturday, Johnson added. He said it was "one of the worst cases I've seen in my 31 years of law enforcement."
