A baby who has been ripped out of his mother's womb in what the Chicago authorities suspect of being a case of fetal abduction is still hospitalized and is in critical condition, according to the family.

The family of Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, who, according to the police, was strangled and her baby was cut off from her mother's belly, published on Monday photos of the baby with his father, Yiovanni Lopez. The baby Yadiel is still in critical condition and depends on a respirator, said a family spokeswoman at NBC News.

Clarisa Figueroa, 46, and her 24-year-old daughter Désirée, were charged last week with strangling Ochoa-Lopez, who was nine years pregnant, and then tearing her body. According to the police, Ochoa-Lopez was reported missing in late April after being organized to meet Clarisa, whom she met on Facebook, in order to pick up baby items.

The authorities assume that Clarisa was planning to raise Marlen Ochoa-Lopez's baby as his after the death of his 20-year-old son from natural causes.

Mother and daughter were denied bail during a court appearance on Friday. Clarissa's boyfriend, 40-year-old Piotr Bobak, accused of concealing the murder, was also denied bail.

The family of Ochoa-Lopez said to be prepared for the possibility that the baby will die too, but still hope.

"We plead with God that he gives us our child, because it is a blessing that our wife has left us," said Wednesday to the press, through the intermediary of a Spanish interpreter, a Spanish interpreter in front of the county morgue where his body was swept away.

Marlen Ochoa-Lopez's funeral is scheduled for Saturday in Stickney, a suburb of Chicago, according to Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Associated press contributed.
