A barrage of 30 shots fired by two suspects during a shootout that injured 10 people outside Trenton's bar, officials said

Authorities are looking for two gunmen who fired at least 30 shots in a shooting that wounded 10 people outside a North Trenton bar early Saturday morning, officials said. city.

The gunmen opened fire around 12:25 pm in front of a crowd starting Memorial Day weekend in front of Ramoneros Liquor & Bar, formerly J & J Liquor & Bar and Stokes Bar. None of the injuries were fatal, officials said.

At a press conference held at the Trenton Police Headquarters, Mercer County Attorney, Angelo J. Onofri, said that a dark-colored sport utility vehicle had borrowed Middle Rose Street for to Brunswick Avenue from Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. stopped at the corner of Middle Rose Street and Brunswick Avenue, next to Ramoneros Bar, and at least two suspects opened fire on a crowd of people gathered in the area, said Onofri.

"It was an expansive crime scene," he said.

The city's new director of police, Sheilah Coley, said the authorities did not have a motive yet, but were exploring the theory that it was a gang.

"There are gangs in Trenton," she said. "They are associated with neighborhoods and there are sometimes neighborhood conflicts. It could very well be part of that friction. "

The victims, five men and five women, were taken to Trenton Capital Regional Medical Center by the first responders. One person was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. None of the victims were identified, but Onofri provided journalists with information on their age, injuries and condition.

Two of the women have since been released from the hospital, said Onofri. Eight of the victims were residents of Trenton.

The shooting investigation is ongoing. Police said that they may have a vehicle and continue to watch several videos of the crime scene.

Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora said the shootings were "an indication of gun violence rampant throughout America."

"Ultimately, it will take the federal government to take over," he said.

Gusciora said the local authorities "took the lead," and praised Coley's efforts for a short time.

"Trenton can not become a tale of two cities: one that is advancing in economic development and improving education, while creating a dangerous environment for young people because of gun violence," he said. Gusciora said at a press conference. "As long as there are people with devilish intentions, the police are ready to protect our citizens and to obtain justice."

There were five homicides in Trenton in 2019. Gusciora said that three of them had been resolved and that the police were about to solve another one. Violent crime has decreased in the last two years in the capital, he added.

"We will make sure that the city is sure that residents are safe and that neighborhoods are safe," Gusciora said.

Coley stated that Ramoneros Liquor & Bar, located in North Trenton, had previously been forced to break the laws of the Liquor Control Division, but was not known to be frequented by violent people.

This is the second time in almost a year that one fires in the city with nine or more wounded. In June 2018, nearly 30 people were injured during the shooting at the Art All Night festival and one man, an alleged gunman, was shot dead by police officers.

"Many neighborhoods feel safe in Trenton," Gusciora said. "Yes, we must tackle the socio-economic problems where many young people have lost hope. We must address the underlying causes of why someone takes a gun and joins a gang. "
