A A blood test capable of detecting ovarian cancer two years earlier than current methods could be used to screen women, scientists hope.

Researchers at Queen's University in Belfast found that measuring four proteins simultaneously can detect cancer earlier, while nine out of ten women would survive.

Ovarian cancer is one of the most lethal because the symptoms are vague or nonexistent. Therefore, it is often diagnosed only later, while the chances of survival for five years are only 22%.

Current blood tests that look for high levels of a protein called CA125 have disadvantages because this protein is also high during pregnancy and during menstruation.
