A brush fire breaks out at Eagle Rock, cluttering highways and heading toward homes

A brush fire erupted in Eagle Rock Sunday afternoon, obstructing highways, threatening homes and throwing a large cloud of visible smoke into the Los Angeles Basin.

The fire was reported around 16 hours. and is believed to have started in block 2900 of West Colorado Boulevard, near the Highway 2 and 134 interchange,
according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"The fire spotted on the north side of 134 Freeway and slowly back to the houses," tweeted the department at 4:45 pm. Traffic jams were reported throughout the area when portions of the two nearby motorways were closed.

No mandatory evacuation was ordered and no injuries were reported, said the fire department.
