A brutal air mass in the Arctic is poised to invade the United States

Temperatures of up to 30 to 50 degrees below normal penetrate the northern plains at the end of the workweek. Throughout the weekend, the brutal conditions you could expect in the cold January invade the center of the country from Mexican borders to Canadian borders.

As the first full week of March approaches, Arctic Air is also setting up its home in the East. When all is over, most of the contiguous United States will suffer a harsh blow of frosty air due to this explosion in the Arctic. Cold records are probably the most numerous in the north-central United States but will extend from one ocean to another.

Setting up

In March, many people are looking for spring. For the moment, it will be difficult to find. Some of the colder airs of the northern hemisphere are moving towards the lower 48 degrees.

"It's a forehand from the Arctic!" tweeted Steve Glazier from Weather Nation.

An unusually strong high pressure zone currently located near northern Alaska will drift into the Arctic in the coming days, forcing sub-zero air, usually centered in the polar region, to move to the south.

The coverage and intensity of the cold on the Lower 48 could peak on Monday. The European modeling system predicts average daily temperatures of 20 to 40 degrees below normal over much of the lower 48. The heart of the cold will extend from the Pacific Northwest to the Great Lakes north and from Texas to the Ohio Valley in the south and the middle of the nation.

Beyond Monday, the coldest temperatures fade a bit as they head east.

Central US faces the heart of this Arctic epidemic

The worst of the cold snap is expected in the north-central part of the country, where widespread dangerous conditions are expected.

It was way too cold in Montana even before this cold spell came in – some spots ended nearly 30 degrees below normal for full month from February. This explosion in the Arctic is always ready to bring it to an extreme level.

Generalized temperatures of 40 to 50 degrees below normal are expected from Saturday night to early Sunday throughout Montana. This equates to vertices less than zero and less than more than 20 degrees.

the NWS, Glasgow, Montana, said that "the cold wind could seep into the under 50s by Sunday morning. At such temperatures, frostbite is a major concern.

A similar forecast is told in the East through the Dakota and in the Upper Midwest. In Duluth, Minnesota, where they work for two consecutive months at freezing temperatures, wind chills are expected to drop to below-30. Actual temperatures are only -10 to zero degrees for highs on Sunday, after minimums in the range of -10 to minus 20.

Temperatures below zero are expected to occur in parts of Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois and, perhaps in isolation, even in Oklahoma, Texas and New York. Missouri Sunday morning. Aeolian chills can drop to their lowest level of winter in Oklahoma, diving under zero.

Monday's highs may be just 20 hours in Oklahoma City, 30 years in Dallas and 40 years near the Gulf Coast.

In the Upper Midwest, the cities of Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay are unlikely to escape record numbers on Monday as Chicago struggles to reach 10.

The eastern United States will also become very cold

This attack in the Arctic will also release some cold air in the eastern United States.

From the eastern Great Lakes to the Ohio Valley, passing through Detroit and Cleveland, the peaks are still between 20 and 20 years old Monday.

Tuesday, when the cold will hit the northeast, highs could oscillate between 20 and 20 years, except about in the corridor between Washington and New York. The slightly gentler quarantine will extend to the Carolinas and Georgia, well below normal.

Low temperatures ranging from near zero in northern Maine to nearly 20 in the central Atlantic littoral are well below 10 to 20 degrees normal for early March and may be colder in areas of fresh snow.

A little cold is spreading even in the west

An Arctic air mass that spans the entire country is not very common, largely because the Rockies are a good blocking mechanism. The way it initially enters the watershed allows the Pacific Northwest to sink into the freeze for a few days.

In the state of Washington, the Spokane's meteorological office predicts highs in the 1920s and one-digit lows this weekend. The wind chills should fall below zero. Friday morning, temperatures fell to 1 degree.

Temperatures in the Pacific Northwest are expected to drop 20 degrees below normal early next week. Although the heat is trying to persist in the southwest, even in this area, it is likely that temperatures will drop below normal, which may be due in large part to a larger storm.

After spending the first 10 days of the month, the cold may be a bit less, but there are no major signs of warm-ups so early for most places.
