ESCONDIDO, Calif. – A Southern California company is voluntarily recalling whole avocados to prevent listeria contamination.
Henry Avocado, a producer and distributor based near San Diego, said Saturday that the recall involved conventional and organic avocados grown and packaged in California. The company says these products were sold in bulk in California, Arizona, Florida, Wisconsin, North Carolina and New Hampshire.
No cases of disease associated with avocados have been reported.
The company said it issued the recall after a routine inspection of its packaging plant that revealed that samples had been tested positive for listeria.
The company says avocados imported from Mexico and distributed by Henry are not recalled and are safe.
Listeria is a bacterium that can cause fever, diarrhea and more dangerous complications in pregnant women.
