A woman from central California was shot dead Saturday morning by her daughter's father, less than a day after filing a no-contact order against her, before the man made himself guilty said the police.

The 26-year-old was shot in her home in Fresno by the suspect, who was later identified as a 40-year-old man, the police quoted The Fresno Bee as saying. The man and the woman had a one-year-old daughter together, the report said. The child was not at home at the time of the shooting, according to the police.

The man fled the house and shot himself in front of the police at an intersection around 10 am, according to The Bee. He died later as a result of his injury at a local medical center, according to the report.

"It was obvious that this person was pursuing her in one way or another and, of course, today is the unfortunate result," said Chief Jerry Dyer at the press.

Police said that a Fresno court judge had granted the woman a restraining order Friday against the man. The man was in court when the order was granted, the police said. According to Dyer, investigators believe that the alleged murder-suicide could be due to the court order. None of their identities have been released.
