Authorities in northern California have reportedly arrested a 29-year-old man found unconscious in a home on Saturday afternoon with a 13-month-old baby by his side.
Police broke into a house in Santa Rosa, about 60 km north of San Francisco, around 12:50 pm. the Saturday. They found a man identified as Patrick Oneill and a baby lying next to him on the floor of a bedroom. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said there was no sign of "physical abuse", but they discovered "signs of recent drug use next to where the child was discovered". The possible role of drugs in the baby's death was unclear.
Oneill was taken to the hospital with "life-threatening injuries," police said. He should be incarcerated in Sonoma County Jail for murder after his release from hospital, they said.

"We still have some research to do," said Lt. Dan Marincik of the Santa Rosa Pole at Bay City News. "We saw no signs of physical injury and there was narcotic paraphernalia in the room. We think that the 29-year-old put the child in a situation that eventually led to his death. "
