A canceled 2006 Tomb Raider game is now playable

In 2006, Core Design, the original studio behind the Grave robber series, was working on a 10th anniversary remake of the first game for PSP. Although a lot of progress was made, the game was eventually canceled. Now this original PSP game has resurfaced and is playable, PC player reports.

The 31st of December Grave robber fansite Ash grave uploaded what he says are the PSP remake assets to Internet archives. The assets include multiple levels, with puzzles and platforms. If you follow Ash’s Tomb Instructions, you can play the new 2006 PSP Grave robber remake.

Following some disappointing Grave robber games in the early 2000s, Core Design started developing PSP games but still wanted to celebrate Lara and the Grave robber deductible in time for the 10th anniversary. the studio launched and finally got the green light to start working on a PSP remake from the original game. News of this remake leaked in 2006 via an internal video that ended up online.

Shortly after the leak, the game was canceled. Instead, publisher Sci Entertainment opted for a cross-platform remake developed by Crystal Dynamics. This game, Tomb Raider Birthday, released in 2007, while Core Design closed in 2010 after being bought by Rebellion and released stuff like Rogue warrior.

Unlike the Crystal Dynamics remake, this PSP take by Core is more akin to the classic and original game, with awkward jumps and movements. Interestingly, Tomb of Ash claims that Core was flipping the remake in one Indiana Jones Game.
