According to investigators, a couple in Alabama – who did not believe in doctors – could be sentenced to life in prison for being convicted of the death of his 3-year-old son, who died of starvation.

Following the death of Hendrix Frink, Ashley Elizabeth Catron and Frederick Anthony Frink were charged with severe child abuse charges.

The Huntsville police testified that the two boys in the couple were severely malnourished.

Hendrix Frink weighed 13 pounds when he died, prosecutor Tim Douthit said.

Frink's 4-year-old brother survived but only weighed 15 pounds, investigators added. It was not clear when they discovered the condition of the boys at home.

Catron told investigators that she had given children nutritious drinks to "revive" them rather than taking them to the doctor last year, the WAAY agency said.

An investigator said the house smelled of urine, while the boys' cots were soiled with blood and stool.

The couple declared bankruptcy after accumulating tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills.
