HIKO, Nev. – It was not the close encounter that people were thinking about when it came to "Storm Area 51" this weekend.
The Nevada Highway-Southern Command patrol reported on Twitter that an accident had been reported Friday night on State Route 375 at kilometer 30, involving a passenger car and a cow.
Nevada State Route 375, also known as the "Extraterrestrial Highway", winds along the area just north of Area 51. It is expected that the only two-lane highway will experience an influx visitors obsessed with aliens over the next few days due to the "Storm Zone 51" and related festivals that have mushroomed.

Other than small clusters of civilization, the roadway between Rachel and Tonopah winds through Joshua's tree-lined valleys before climbing up hills that provide insights into the dirt roads in the distance.

The accident occurred late Friday between the towns of Rachel and Hiko, about 116 miles north of Las Vegas.
"The SR375 is fully open, respect the posted speed limit, lower speeds are suggested overnight," the agency said. says on Twitter. "Wildlife is not used to this important traffic, so be careful."
A photo published by the agency showed the front of the vehicle broken by the impact.

Although no human injury has been reported, the State Patrol disclosed the cow died in the accident.
Aside from the crash, authorities are monitoring thousands of people who have presented themselves in the Nevada Desert under the sign of a "Storm Zone 51," said on Saturday morning that "there was no serious incidents overnight.
Lincoln County Sheriff, Kerry Lee, told the Associated Press that he was "rather quiet" early Saturday at the "Alienstock" events at Rachel and "Area 51 Basecamp" at Hiko. Lee said groups gathered until around 4 am at the two gates of the vast, once-secret American Air Force facility between the two cities.
Nearly 20 people separated from the party goers and curious at Rachel's door and rushed forward, but stopped dead.
On Friday, officials said that the number of people approaching the base checkpoints near the small towns of the Hiko and Rachel Desert in recent days has exceeded 1,000.

One person was arrested overnight for disorderly conduct to music, speakers, movies and camping events and to Hiko, according to the sheriff.
