A Massachusetts teenager convicted of having fatally stabbed and then beheaded a classmate from a high school was sentenced to life in prison, reports the AP. Mathew Borges, 18, of Lawrence, will be eligible for parole in 30 years under the maximum sentencing on Tuesday by Superior Court Judge Helene Kanzajian. A jury found Borges guilty of first degree murder in May 2016, when the 16-year-old Lee Manuel Viloria-Paulino was murdered. The body and head decapitated Viloria-Paulino were found on the banks of a river by a dog walker.

Prosecutors say Borges was jealous that the victim spends time with a girl that he loves. Under Massachusetts law, a conviction for first degree murder is punishable by life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for an adult. But eligibility for parole must be added if the crime was committed as a minor. (Borges would have sent his ex a scary text 24 hours after the murder.)
