A Delaware man found with a loaded rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition in the car park of the N.J. elementary school, say the cops

UPDATE: Relief in Westfield after a man with a gun and 130 bullets reportedly drove 100 miles in primary school. NBC New York, citing a senior police source, reported Friday that "the man" had targeted the school because of a relationship that had deteriorated with a faculty member ".

A 46-year-old Delaware man was arrested Thursday in a primary school parking lot in Westfield after being found in his SUV with a loaded firearm and additional ammunition, officials said.

Westfield police learned that the man, identified as Thomas J. Wilkie, was at Tamaques School after receiving a police advisory from New Castle County, Delaware shortly before 4 pm, the office said. Union County Attorney. The officers took Wilkie into custody and searched the school, which was locked up after school activities.

Wilkie was holding a .45-caliber handgun loaded with hollow-point bullets, authorities said. He also had two loaded ammunition magazines and 130 additional cartridges in the trunk of the vehicle.

The Bear, Delaware resident has been charged with illegal possession of a weapon, possession of hollow point bullets and trespassing on school grounds, the Union County Attorney's Office said. The Delaware authorities have tried to locate Wilkie.

Wilkie, who is being held at the Union County Jail, is scheduled to appear in Superior Court at Elizabeth Wednesday.

A spokesman for the prosecutor's office declined to provide additional information on why a Delaware man attended a Union County school. The Westfield School officials could not be contacted immediately for comment.

The police lifted the lock at around 5:30 pm after re-scanning the school with K-9s.
