MONCKS CORNER, NS (CNN) – When MP Will Kimbro stopped a car for sped up last month, he did not know that he would save a newborn's life.
The dramatic episode, which took place on June 11 during a routine patrol in Berkeley County, South Carolina, was filmed by a new video recorded by the body's camera. 39; agent.
When Kimbro stopped the vehicle, the driver got out of the car and shouted that the baby had stopped breathing after drinking a bottle, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.
His body was soft and bluish because of lack of oxygen, the sheriff's office said.
After asking the baby's name for the mother who was sitting in the passenger seat, the member put her on her lap, checked her pulse and started to massage her heart to save lives.
"Come on baby, cry for me, cry for me," he says. "Open those eyes, sweetheart."
As the baby starts crying, Kimbro says, "As long as she's crying like that, she's breathing in. I want you to cry. Come on."
"I think she'll be fine, she's breathing," the officer said to reassure the mother.
He continues to practice CPR because his breathing is intermittent, explains Kimbro in the video.
Eventually, the baby's chest starts to move, which means that she's breathing alone again. An emergency medical team arrives and Kimbro and the mother tell what happened.
The baby was taken to a local hospital for observation and released, said Sheriff spokeswoman Carli R. Drayton.
"As far as we know, the baby is fine," said Drayton.
"Thanks to Kimbro MP's firm, professional and heroic response, the 12-day-old baby has been able to live," the sheriff's office said on Facebook.
Kimbro received a medal for his heroic deeds.
