Aug. 23 (Reuters) – The owner of three dogs that killed a 9-year-old girl in Detroit earlier this week was in jail on Friday, held for a $ 2 million bond on charges involving second-degree murder.

Pierre Cleveland, 33, was arrested and charged with manslaughter and dangerous animals, as well as the murder leader, reported several media outlets, including the Detroit Free Press.

The 9-year-old Emma Hernandez was riding a bicycle near her home in Detroit on Monday, the last day of summer vacation, when she was attacked and killed by dogs despite neighbors' efforts to to save.

The defendant's family cried during his hearing

A neighbor used a brick to hit the dogs and a second fired a gun, the media reported.

Cleveland's family cried during his hearing Thursday, where he pleaded not guilty, media reports said.

His lawyer, Emmett Greenwood, asked the judge for a bail bond, calling it "outrageous" the $ 2 million amount because his client has no criminal record and presents no risk leak. The judge refused.

Detroit's Cleveland home is in front of the child's home, and the media reported that neighbors had long complained to the city about the leak of his dogs through a broken fence.

A fortune memorial consisting of balloons, flowers and animal toys was installed in front of the child's home by worshipers.

Memorials for the child were planned for the weekend.
