Three Connecticut students were allegedly stabbed by a third while they played a stabbed scene from the supernatural thriller "The Butterfly Effect" for a class project.

Jake Wascher, a 21-year-old drama student, allegedly stabbed victims in the chest and back while they were rehearsing the film scene at Hartford University Sunday afternoon.

"The suspect was" playing "a scene from a movie in which a person [or persons] he started stabbing the two victims before he ran away, "said Hartford Police Lieutenant Paul Cicero, the Hartford Courant reported on Monday.

A victim, aged 19, was seriously injured after being stabbed twice. the other, 21, was seriously injured after receiving several stab wounds, the newspaper reported.

The reconstruction took place in a campus apartment where the victim, 21, was living.

Two hours after the stabbing, a cop spotted Wascher in the woods, according to the Courant. He was arrested on two counts of attempted murder after surrendering.

The campus was locked out while the police were looking for Wascher, from San Diego.

University officials issued a statement in which they said they were "deeply saddened" by the incident, WPVI-TV reported.

"The Butterfly Effect" featured Aaron Kutcher as a student of psychology at a university whose life, according to the New York Times, was marked by a series of failures surrounding traumatic events.

He was largely swept away.
