A driver intentionally drove his truck in an emergency from an Ohio hospital, killing 1 and injuring 2, police said

The truck driver is in police custody and is being treated for injuries, said Fairfield County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chief Alex Lape. Charges are expected against the driver as nothing indicates that he has attempted to brake.

"Obviously, it seems like it's a deliberate act," said Lape.

According to Michael Englehart, Interim Executive Director of the Mount Carmel Health System, who runs the hospital, the emergency room at Diley Ridge Medical Center at Canal Winchester, near Columbus, was full of patients at the time of the accident. The truck "is sitting in the immediate area where you are entering the hospital," said Violet County Fire Chief Mike Little.

Jason Boch told CNN's affiliate, WTTE-TV, that he was doing blood tests at the medical center when he saw the accident.

"I heard this boom, then I peeked and saw that black truck heading straight for the information counter," he said. Boch. "There was a lady stuck between the truck and the office."

Englehart said that the person killed was a longtime hospital employee. Police do not think the victims knew the driver, Lape said.

"Our thoughts are with the family, friends and staff members involved in today 's incident, and we pray for them during this extremely difficult time," said Lt.-Noel. hospital in a statement.

The emergency department has suffered significant damage and is closed, according to the hospital statement. Englehart told WCHM-TV, affiliated with CNN, that the timing of the reopening of the hospital was not yet known.
