A man from Iowa died this weekend after the police claimed to have been fatally injured, saving the life of his 5-year-old daughter, a victim of a dog.
Members of the Lee County Sheriff's Office were called at approximately 10:31 am from a house in Fort Madison, near the old Iowa State Prison, following attacks on a dog.
Once at the residence, the authorities saw "a big dog" attack Robert Joseph Quick, 33, who was lying on his back in the garden.

The dog, whose breed was not identified by the authorities, would have been so "aggressive" that it would not release the victim. The deputies were forced to shoot the dog in order to stop the attack.
Quick, who was suffering from his own injuries, reportedly ordered MPs to take care of his daughter who had been attacked by the dog. The officers who responded administered the first aid to the girl.

"Mr. Quick had defended his daughter and had certainly saved her life through her actions," Lee County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.
Quick was rushed to the Fort Madison Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the victim's death was not immediately clear, but according to a GoFundMe page created to help cover funeral expenses, Quick suffered a heart attack at the scene.
The dog belonged to a family member and was cared for by the owners of the house where the attack had taken place.
According to a local obituary, he is survived by his wife Dawn and their four children.
