A 4-month-old girl died Wednesday after being left in a hot van in front of a Florida daycare for nearly five hours, authorities said.

The Jacksonville police received a call around 1 pm from a day care worker who said he found the baby "still tied up in his insensitive child seat," the sheriff's office said in a press release.

The employee had checked the vehicle after the baby's mother called the daycare to make arrangements after school hours, but the baby was not registered that morning, the statement said.

The girl, who had been in the vehicle about 8:25 am, was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, the sheriff's office announced. Temperatures in Jacksonville Wednesday reached 92 degrees, according to reports.

Darryl Ewing, the 56-year-old co-owner of the van and daycare, was arrested and jailed on charges of child neglect, the Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators said that Ewing was responsible for keeping a log of the driver, documenting all the children in the van. Ewing had recorded the two siblings of the victim, but not the victim, according to the statement. An investigation is underway.
