The Yellow Bluff Fire has burned 300 hectares and is confined to 30%, announced the Florida Forest Service office in Jacksonville. It started Wednesday and the detours are in place as it burns near I-95.

The Florida Highway Patrol hijacks I-95 and the northbound and southbound roads are closed in Duval County, said officer Christian Hancock of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

I-95 is a major transportation route along the east coast from Miami to the US-Canada border in Maine. It is also essential for accessing the great beaches of Florida.

"As Memorial Day weekend approaches, all travelers should closely watch the media for updates on the security and reopening of I-95," said Commissioner Nicole Fried from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services of Florida.

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville issued a dense smoke warning in the area. Visibility will be reduced to a quarter of a mile or less, he added.
