BOISE, Idaho (AP) – A former Idaho Transportation Department employee claimed in a lawsuit that he had been fired after warning a federal agency of possible violations of nuclear law.
The complaint filed by John Christopher Turner in the Idaho Statesman case said Sunday that the ministry had dismissed him in violation of Idaho's whistleblowing law after voicing concerns about his Nuclear Density Gauge Program.
The Idaho Risk Management Office, which takes care of the transportation service, states that it does not comment on ongoing litigation.
Turner was fired two weeks before the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission sent a finding of offense to the ministry in 2017.
Turner was concerned about tools containing a radiation source.
He says that there were inconsistencies in the department's records and that he could count only 82 out of 104 gauges.
